Media Composer for Producers & Edit Producers

March 8 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Free

Being able to navigate, view, and mark clips for the editor significantly enhances efficiency from a producer’s perspective.

Understanding the software and its capabilities not only informs the editing process but also aids in budgeting and scheduling a production.

This course provides valuable insights into the editing process and equips you with key skills to effectively support and enhance the edit as it evolves.

Classroom based
Date – 8th March 2025
Duration – 1 day
10am to 5pm
Includes Lunch

This is a short and focused session that covers the key skills you need to help with the edit.

It’s designed for producers and edit producers who want to get more hands-on with the footage—clipping, organising, and making the edit process smoother.

It’s also great for production staff who want a quick overview of the edit software and how the workflow fits into a production.

This session will familiarise you with the software, its layout and basic functionality so you’ll walk away confident that you can navigate, view and make clips for the editor

We’ll cover:

  • An overview of Avid and the edit process
  • Navigating a project in a shared storage environment (Nexis in a Post House)
  • The interface and how to customise simplify the layout
  • Viewing and managing bins
  • Viewing clips and marking/highlighting for the edit
  • Making/managing your own bins and sequences
  • Sync pulls
  • Stringouts/gathering “best shots”
  • Communicating with the editor
  • Overview of remote editing

Upon completing this course you will have a better understanding of the tools used in the edit as well as some key skills that will enable you to support the edit process and add an additional level of efficiency to the cut.

You’ll have a good understanding of Media Composer and the workflow of its use within a post house and within a shared project environment.

As a delegate on the course you will also be notified of any networking events run by ourselves or partners as well as having access to our fortnightly drop in session at Gorilla Academy.

This project has received support from the Welsh Government via Creative Wales
